FAQ

  • How long does it take to replace my windshield?

Typical installations take anywhere from 40 minutes to 2 hours depending on the vehicle being serviced.

  • How long do I have to wait before my vehicle is safe to drive again after the windshield is replaced?

Parpart’s Autoglass Services LLC generally uses a one hour safe drive away time urethane. This implies that any windows held in place with urethane will need one hour to cure. Only after this period can the vehicle be driven. Door glass replacements are normally ready to drive right away after completion of the install.

  • How long should I wait before getting a car wash?

It is recommended to wait at least 48 hours before using a high pressure automatic car wash. Rain and normal precipitation within the first 48 hours is acceptable.

  • Where do you get the glass from?

On the local scale there are multiple vendors within the Minneapolis and St. Paul area. Most of the glass they stock comes from overseas. Fuyao Glass America and Pilkington North America are a couple of examples with manufacturing facilities in the United States.

  • How do you know that my window has already been replaced?

Each window in a vehicle is stamped with a manufactures mark. From the factory install the glass will have the OEM manufactures name. In the left image, an aftermarket Pilkington windshield shows no specific manufacturer. To the right, the Ford logo is stamped on the glass indicating it is an OEM part. If your window has the manufacturing mark on the glass, there is a good chance it has not been replaced. It is worth noting that sometimes the part number is also stamped on the glass for identification purposes. FW3419 and DW2355GTY are the respective part numbers for these two pieces of glass. There are other indicators of a prior install. Exposed black primer or marring of panels and trim from disassembly can show evidence of this.

  • What are the black dots around my rear view mirror?

The entire black area around the edge of the windshield is referred to as the frit. The frit serves both cosmetic and technical purposes. As humans it can be difficult to apply a perfectly straight bead of urethane for installation. This frit band will help to hide those small imperfections to achieve a clean look. Ultraviolet(UV) sun rays will break down the urethane bond over time. The frit helps to dissipate heat on a sunny summer day. It also protects the seal from direct UV rays. It is generally textured giving the urethane something to bond to more effectively. Every different vehicle will have a different frit pattern.

  • Do you offer ADAS calibration and is it really needed?

Yes and yes! Automated Drivers Assistance Systems(ADAS) need a calibration after every windshield replacement. Parpart’s Autoglass Services LLC offers 100% mobile ADAS calibration services. Both static and dynamic ADAS calibrations can be completed on site. Almost every manufacturer requires this service to guarantee the vehicles safety systems are working properly with the newly installed windshield.

  • When did you start your glass career and how long have you been installing?

I started my career in January of 2013. I worked for several local and corporate companies before starting my own company in February of 2025.
